Read Chapter 11

Morgan wasn’t sure what ultimately motivated her to text Regina at that time in the morning, but she had to give it a chance. As she pulled her car up to the curb and stopped a block away, she shook her head at herself. Here she was, intent on spending another night with her best friend’s girl. What’s the big deal? she reasoned with herself. Jae doesn’t really care for Regina, she’s just the thing of the moment… She wouldn’t care about this. I mean, we’ve shared a ton of girls in the past. Morgan climbed out of the car and tried to control her breathing as she walked up the street towards Regina’s condo.

Regina’s heart started racing when she heard Morgan’s request sink in. “Yes, it would be nice to see you” was her reply before hearing Morgan say, “See you soon.”

Almost immediately, Regina jumped from the bed to straighten herself up. She looked over at the clock.What can I tell Jae to keep her from showing up tonight? As she busied herself in the bathroom mirror, she had to think up a good lie. She grabbed her phone, and started the text. “Hey babe. One of the night shift nurses in ICU didn’t make it in, and I’ve agreed to pick up the shift. I’m heading to the hospital now and will meet you at your place tomorrow evening. I miss you. I love you. See you later.” Regina read it over a few times, and she felt her heart sink a little when she finally hit send.

After a few minutes of anxious waiting, Regina received her reply: “I miss you too baby. I’m exhausted, so I will probably be in bed most of the day. Drive safely.”

Regina jumped when she heard the doorbell and took her time walking over. As much as she really wanted to see Morgan, she still couldn’t believe her own actions. When she opened the front door to find her leaning against the frame with the most innocent looking smirk, she couldn’t help but smile. Morgan wasted no time gently kissed her cheek and then playfully pushing pass her. Once inside, the two settled onto the couch and flipped through the On Demand movies. Truthfully, Regina was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to return to her bed, but didn’t want to further test temptation by bringing Morgan into her room. After deciding on Despicable Me, they allowed themselves to relax and get comfortable.

Morgan stretched herself out down the couch, while Regina curled up next to her and settled her head on her chest. As Morgan ran her fingers up and down Regina’s back, it caused chills. When Morgan could hear her breathing change and was certain Regina was falling asleep, she placed a kiss on her forehead and Regina immediately blushed as she felt the warmth of butterflies panicking in her stomach.

Regina exhaled deeply and couldn’t remember the last time she felt so relaxed and secure. She couldn’t even remember the last time the brush of Jae’s fingertips gave her chills. As wrong as it was, the feelings Morgan was stirring up in her were much welcomed and Regina was unaware of how much she missed or needed it, until now… But before her thoughts could travel any deeper, they were asleep.

It was nearly noon when the two finally decided to get moving the next day. They found such comfort in just lounging with one another, neither wanted to be the first to get up. However, upon Morgan’s suggestion, the two decided on lunch and then a walk around Meridian Hill Park. It was a gorgeous day in DC and the perfect weather for wandering around aimlessly. While strolling around the park, Regina resisted the urge to slide her hand into Morgan’s, while Morgan resisted the urge to slide her arm around Regina’s shoulder. Inside, they settled on flirtatious glances and brushes against one another as acceptable PDA.

After about 20 minutes of walking and chatting, Regina stopped dead in her tracks and frowned. Morgan followed her line of vision to see Jae and Kim cuddled cozy under a large tree, looking at one another affectionately and stealing small kisses. Morgan looked down and then back at Regina, waiting for a reaction, but Regina had no words. She simply turned on her heels, and headed back in the other direction. “I don’t know what to say Regina. Are you okay..?”

Regina looked up at her with a weak smile and kissed her cheek. “I’m fine. Lets continue to enjoy our afternoon”… She slid her hand into Morgan’s and began to lead the way. She had no idea that Jae and Morgan had been texting back and forth the night before:

Morgan: Hey bro. Been awhile since we got together. How have you been?

Jae: All is good with me. Almost got caught up with Regina and Kim the other morning. So you know, damage control.

Mogan: Haha. Better get on that best behavior! Regina cool though?

Jae: Yeah, she was real cool actually. Ain’t heard a word from her about it since. But I finally convinced Kim to let me make it up to her though.

Morgan: Word? What’s the plan? I know you been trying to get on that for awhile.

Jae: Well, you know how I do… Decided on a quiet walk in the park tomorrow. Chill at that spot under my favorite tree over at Meridian Hill.

Morgan: Niceeee. That gets them every time! Enjoy bro.
