Regina and Jae: Chapter 13

The remainder of their walk was mostly in silence. Regina was absorbed in her thoughts about what she should do next. It took her a few moments to decide that she didn’t want to be a part of this cycle anymore. She just couldn’t continue being “that woman” who stayed in a relationship that was unhealthy for her… She had to make a change. She was frustrated with herself for allowing things to go so far and was torn between what she wanted, and ultimately what she probably needed.

Morgan’s thoughts were not anymore organized. Deep down inside, she was disappointed in herself for setting up her friend that way. She broke one of the brotherhood’s golden rules. But Morgan couldn’t help rationalizing with herself that she was doing what was best for Regina… and maybe even herself. After observing the actions of Jae throughout her relationship with Regina, Morgan just couldn’t take it anymore. She found herself constantly looking for a woman who had all of her qualities, and she couldn’t stand by and watch Regina settle for less than she deserved…

When they reached the car, it was apparent to both of them that the afternoon’s fun was just about over. “I’m not feeling too well” Regina started, “would you mind just dropping me off and maybe we can get together later?”

“Sure, no problem” Morgan replied as she reluctantly opened the door for her and then walked over to the driver’s side. She thought over a million things in her mind that she could say in order to break the silence during the ride, but nothing seemed fitting enough. All she could think of was wanting to wrap her arms around her, but for now, she settled on just holding her hand.

After arriving home, Regina spent the remainder of the afternoon into the evening trying to calm down. She had gone from hurt, to confused and now completely angry. Although she was still torn over what her ultimate decision would be, she asked Jae to come over in order for her to speak her mind. Not too long after Regina made her request, Jae walked in as calm, cool and collected as she had always been. She tossed her keys on the coffee table and sank into the couch next to Regina. “I missed you love” she said, as she leaned in to kiss her.

Regina moved back and screwed her face up all at once. “I saw you in the park today” she immediately blurted out not wanting to waste any time. “How could you Jae?”

Dumbfounded, Jae had to take a moment to gather her thoughts. “Baby, I don’t know what you saw. But believe me when I tell you that it wasn’t how it looked!”

“I must look stupid to you!” Regina began unloading. “You and all these women, time and time again. When will it stop Jae? When will you grow the hell up? I’m tired of you playing me all the time.”

Jae was beginning to panic and was starting to feel she couldn’t talk her way out of this one. “Baby please, just calm down and lets talk about this. That stuff with Kim in the park, it meant nothing.” She was now kneeling in front of Regina with a face full of tears. “You have to believe me! Nothing ever happened… you mean everything to me.” Jae was trying her best to put on a believable performance, but the hardened expression on Regina’s face was not yet beginning to soften. “What do I have to do? What can I do to make you believe me?! Yes, I screwed up in the past, but I swear to you I have changed.”

Regina continued to look at Jae in total disgust and was now shaking her head. “Please leave my keys on the table, and get out” was all she cared to say as she slid Jae’s arms from her lap and stood. “I need time away from you” was the last thing she said as she went into her bedroom and closed the door behind her.

Afraid to push Regina any further, Jae did as she was told. It wasn’t until she was in her car and ready to pull away that she thought to ask herself… How was she in the park, if she was suppose to be at work?
