How to Work a Full Time Job and Follow Your Dreams

For those of you who have done this or who are in the process of doing this now, you know that if you are passionate about your dreams, they will become a priority, and will not suffer at the hands of a 9 to 5.  Therefore, the key to following your dreams while gainfully employed is passion, passion, passion.  If you have this, you’re honestly already halfway there!

I consider myself the QUEEN of multitasking.  I have worked a full time job, attended graduate school, become a blogger while maintaining an editing gig on the side and a social life! I wouldn’t recommend others try this because I’m a professional, and everyone isn’t able. But, for those of you who only have to juggle your dreams and a job, here is what you must do:

Sacrifice - When you are pursuing your dreams full time, you WILL have less time to do other things you enjoy – like sleeping (my personal favorite), watching Hoarders, dating, and the like.  A financial sacrifice may also be required to achieve your dreams.  However, your sacrifice will only be temporary.   Work hard now so you can play hard later.

Believe - I always say, “if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will.”  At times, you will want to give up. Some will try to convince you to give up.  But, if you truly believe, your dreams will not perish because of negative outside influences, and your dreams WILL ultimately come to past.

Steppin Out in Faith

After talking with my mentor and hubby about the current state of things, they both told me I need to step out in faith. Now, mind you, things are not bad, I’m blessed and so is my family. But, I have been at my current job for 10 years and a lot of people would say that it’s awesome and such an accomplishment and such. And yes it is! Not a lot of people my age can say that. I also enjoy what I do and the people who I work with in my immediate circle, however…I am not a fan of anything else.

And, now that I have been forced to take a hiatus from graduate school, I am taking this time to pursue some hidden goals. I have a lot of goals that I have successfully placed into a top 3 list. So, here they are:

Wise Words: RISE & SMILE

I know I write a lot of discussions on relationships, but I would like to do something different.  Not only would I like to assist my readers with reflecting on their relationships and friendships, but I want to inspire and motivate each of you.

  • I want YOU to know that you can achieve and conquer ANYTHING that you set out to.
  • I want YOU to be Fearless, Strong and Determined.
  • I want YOU to smile, be happy and LOVE LIFE!

Therefore, each week I will post a quote, some inspiring words or possibly a story to Empower, Motivate and Inspire YOU.

*RISE & SMILE*

“We must define ourselves by the best that is in us, not the worst that has been done to us.”

- Edward Lewis, Publisher, Essence Magazine

It is important for us to step out of our comfort zone.  Yes, it may be scary or uncomfortable outside of it, but we cannot allow our own fears, guilt, unworthiness, depression or anger to hinder us from realizing our dreams and accomplishing our goals.

“To reach your goal -  to live out your dream -  you must choose, moment by moment, to take steps in the direction of your dream no matter how uncomfortable you may feel.”

These wise words and this inspirational message were taken from Dennis Kimbro’s Daily Motivations for African American Success.  It’s a great book and I’m sure I will be using it once again to share wise words with ALL of YOU!
