Who Will be Role Models for Young Women?

Readers, pardon my rant – I can’t help, but to be concerned about today’s young ladies. Truthfully, what do they have to model themselves after? We have women like Kim Kardashian who are receiving praises from her man (and I use that word loosely), with song creations like, “My Perfect B*tch.” I’m sorry, but what honor is in that? The three stood in silence that was loud enough to deafen the average person. Jae was the first to speak, “So what the f_ck does all of this mean Regina? I mean, what is it that you’re trying to say.”

Regina looked Jae in the eyes for the first time in months, “It’s over Jae. I don’t want to do this anymore. My heart isn’t in it.”

Jae refused to again lose her cool composure. “Cool, that’s cool. Ain’t nothing left to say then. Y’all didn’t have to do me like this though.” Although the statement was directed towards both of them, Jae intended for them to mostly sting Morgan. “I thought we were better than that.” She finally said above a whisper moving towards the door.

Morgan felt she needed to say something before allowing Jae to leave… “Bro… I’m sorry. I swear, as soon as I realized how serious you were about her.. I backed off. I was wrong.” but her words fell on deaf ears – Jae was out the door before her sentence was complete.

Read Chapter 28

Although it broke Regina’s heart to be suddenly be dismissed by Morgan, her pride wouldn’t allow her to do anything, but accept it. When in her presence, she pretended that nothing had ever happened. She was constantly coaching herself in being just as nonchalant about things as Morgan had been. Initially, it was difficult – to put her feelings aside, but the more Morgan pushed her away, the more determined Regina came to behave the same.

Although Jae fully intended on making the change and being faithful, with all that had been going in her life over the past few months, she was unable to look at another women. She spent all her time rebuilding her business… and her bond with Regina. She went home to her every night and was constantly looking for ways to go above and beyond in their relationship. Regina had been so supportive and understanding of her through the years, Jae knew she was the woman she was meant to spend her life with.

Morgan had literally moved on as if nothing had ever happened. She completely purged herself of all thoughts of Regina outside of their group socializing. She made her intentions clear in no longer pursing things between them, and she had full intentions of honoring her word. She went back to being Jae ever-present best friend and swore that she would take her lapse in judgment to the grave.

Over the next couple of weeks, leading into months, it appeared that Regina just couldn’t find the right time to break the news to Jae. Regina couldn’t bare to end their relationship when for the first time, Jae needed her the most. “Are we okay?” Jae pressed as she watched Regina get ready for bed.“What do you mean?” asked Regina as she didn’t bother looking up from tossing her decorative pillows onto the floor and turning down the bed.

“I mean.. You know I am working hard for us, right? To fix this. To show I have changed. You and I… we are okay, right?”

Regina paused for a moment allowing the words to sink in and her thoughts immediately took off. No, we aren’t okay. I’ve forgiven you, but I am no better a person. She sat on the bed. “We are just fine baby. I know you’ve changed. I appreciate you.”

Jae sat next to her, “I want to be better for you. I have become better for you. I need for us to work.”

Regina fought back tears and slowly nodded her head. She recognized that now, more than ever, she had to make a decision about where she was headed in her relationships. Jae had done dirt, but she still deserved better. The two settled in for the night and as Jae was fast asleep, Regina weighed her options. She would spend the next month arriving at her final decision.
