I think I have an unhealthy obsession with all things Batman. I don’t mean in some kind of creepy way that you can obviously tell that I do. I don’t drive a bat mobile, I don’t have a house full of batman gear, but I do watch all the movies, TV shows and cartoons, whenever they come on and there is nothing else to do. I pretty much know them word for word.

I guess it started as a child I collected comic books; my dad started me on that. He would send us bundles while he was on deployment in some foreign country. Most of them were of Batman or Superman. I didn’t care too much for Superman; he seemed way too white for me. I thought he was the kind of guy that was happy about eating his broccoli, loved to drink milk, and never had boo boo stains in his underwear. I mean who does that?!

But Bruce Wayne though..he was the Dark Knight! He lurked in the shadows, was dark and brooding, and while he was rich he wasn’t of that world. Bruce Wayne was the kind of guy that loathed to shower, loved to be alone, and hated large amounts of people. Like me. The thing was, no one knew that he was that way, or suspected it. He didn’t have the cheesy glasses and just disappear when emergencies happened only to return seconds later without the glasses and no one figured it out. He yearned for the dark, like I do.

I understood Bruce and both worlds that he inhabited. I did that a lot as a child. I was a bit of a brainiac, but I was also athletic. By being that way, I didn’t really fit in well. I still don’t, but now I don’t try. While to most people I’m very charismatic, engaging, funny, incredibly good looking and smart, I long for the shadows and the darkness as much as I can. I’m still that loner in a room full of people. There is still a lot of Bruce Wayne left in the little boy that is now a man. We all had heroes growing up and I guess I still do.
