One Response to “The Essentials of a Successful Marriage”

  1. Nick says:

1.I believe the main things needed for a successful marriage are: commitment, love, mutual respect, proper communication, a common spiritual belief, realistic expectations and, the big one, an understanding that marriage is meant for the long haul. I think most tend to get caught up in the good parts of dating and decide to jump into marriage when infatuation consumes them – not realizing that when/if that time comes when the infatuation fades and you hit the little speed bumps of life and love, you should still remain committed to one another. Also, addressing any issues or annoying idiosyncrasies while dating will help pave the way for a better marriage.

2.Ball park figure …. maybe 40%. The others ended in divorce or they’re only hanging on because kids are involved.

3.I honestly think they were more successful in the past. Nowadays, it seems like as soon as there is a big problem within a marriage, people are already halfway out the door. They are so ready to cut their losses and rush towards a divorce.

Great podcast! It really made me think.
