Trayvon Martin: Beyond The Hoodie

It’s been over 3 months since the night that Trayvon Martin was killed. Zimmerman was finally arrested, given bail, and then bail was revoked. People have made as much political hay out of it, made money off of parties, started movements, boycotted Skittles and Arizona Tea, bought Skittles and Arizona tea, and still kids are dying. Every day…over the same stupid stuff that got Trayvon killed.

Can’t say that I didn’t know this would happen. Our society is too ADD and too unwilling to make permanent change. Kids are dying in Chicago, so much so that it seems common place. Almost as yearly as birds migrating.

How do we stop the violence? More gun laws? More community outreach? Answers aren’t easy to come by and they aren’t simple. It will take time, effort, and genuine caring and willingness to admit some things that we are not proud of.

Over he in Jersey people/kids are getting killed in broad day light and everyone is keen on the "snitches get stitches" motto that nobody talks or says a word. It said to know that nothing will change until people take back their community and push to get someoen to not only listen but do something.

I couldn't agree with you more. The black youth of America are dying and entering prisons at an alarming rate. If I didn't know any better I'd say people no longer care about life nor the lives of others.
